But separation and instincts go a long way for wideouts, and Addison has both traits. He’s very light and is largely lacking physicality. Jordan Addison isn’t quite the slam-dunk prospect that you’d think with his production profile. Adding Mayer locks down the position for the foreseeable future, adding a stable presence over the middle that LA lacks. is a restricted free agent this offseason, and Tre’ McKitty has yet to live up to his third-round draft slot. There’s not a clear direction of the tight end room for LA beyond 2023: Gerald Everett is a free agent in 2024, Donald Parham Jr. The tight end is one of the better prospects at the position in the last few seasons and is equally proficient as a blocker or receiver. Mayer is a pretty natural Chargers fit and one I expect to see as a mock draft connection frequently this cycle. Michael Mayer won’t have crazy testing numbers, but he will prove to be a player that simply knows how to get open and be a complementary piece to Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. They have their guys who work the outside, but they need a player that can dominate the middle of the field. Michael Mayer is a physical blocker and will be one of the best contested-catch tight ends in the NFL the moment he is drafted. Something the organization should be trying to do every year is upgrade on offense around their talented quarterback, Justin Herbert. Week 17: Los Angeles Rams, 1:25 p.m.The Chargers need to make changes this offseason, and it will be interesting to see what buttons they push. The team will likely keep things relatively simple in the preseason, but it will be nice just to see what the depth chart looks like. The 49ers will be playing their starters about a quarter, and today marks the first chance to see just what the new offense and defense might start to look like. It has only been a few months, and we have yet to see actual football games, but there is a reason for optimism. After years of leaks, backstabbing, and generally unprofessional behavior, the organization appears to be on track to being on strong footing once again. Over half the 90-man roster consists of new players, but more importantly, we have seen a significant change in culture. Since Lynch and Shanahan were installed in their roles, we have seen nothing short of a complete overhaul in the organization. Kyle Shanahan was hired alongside, although the 49ers and fans had to wait through the Super Bowl for it to become official. An extensive search resulted in a surprise hire of John Lynch as general manager. The team fired general manager Trent Baalke and head coach Chip Kelly. It’s been quite the offseason for the 49ers. The 49ers travel to face the Kansas City Chiefs, with game time set for 6 p.m. It’s been a whirlwind of an offseason for the San Francisco, but football is finally back! The team kicks off their 2017 preseason schedule on Friday, so it is once again time for our first nuts and bolts post of the new season. If you miss the first hour and want to watch it later, it is being re-aired three times. It’s annoying, but something to keep in mind. An important reminder: NFL Network is airing the game, but because of the earlier Giants-Steelers game, NFL Network is not joining the 49ers game until 7 p.m. Alright y’all, it’s game time shortly! The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs square off at 6 p.m.
